As with anything in life we need the right things to do a job well, I love cooking and enjoy having what I need at hand. Even
though we have Lillie and Fynn in the house we still pride ourselves on
the fact that all of our food is fresh, seasonal, healthy and cooked to
order. So in my opinion a good start for your larder stock is:
Onions, garlic, leeks, celery, carrots, potatoes, limes, lemon, good selection of garden herbs
Olive oil, vegetable oil rapeseed oil, sunflower oil
Star anise, onion seeds, cardamom, cinnamon sticks, star anise, black pepper corn, sea salt, table salt
Oats, golden syrup, cream, vanilla pods, eggs, plain flour, self-rising flour, strong bread flour, butter, yeast
Red wine, white wine, port, brandy, whiskey
Fish, beef, lamb, vegetable stock, peppercorns, tinned tomatoes
Soy sauce, red currant jelly, mustards, mayonnaise, ketchup, tomato puree Worcester sauce
Selection of pulses, beans, rice and pasta and seeds
Good selection of flavoured vinegar
Selection of sugars, setting agents, pectin.
Milk, yoghurt, fresh fruit
Selection of breads
We
find that if we keep our larder stocked we are able to enjoy cooking,
home life is stressful enough without starting dinner prep and finding
out you need to run to the shops.
A
well stocked larder will ensure you are a step ahead and will mean
shopping is easier. On top of what we hold in the house we visit local
shops and get what else we need, a large joint of meat is always what we
start our list with as Sunday lunch is a ritual in our house.
The rest
of the week is based around simple food cooked well, such as pasta,
homemade pizza, homemade soups and plenty of bread is what keeps us
going.
Two last
items I forgot and would not be forgiven for if I didn't mention them -
Lillie and Fynn's favourites, rice crispies and chocolate!!!
